Diabetes Care Project On Track To Be Delivered by Healthfirst Network early 2012
The Diabetes Care Project (DCP) is a 3-year pilot of a new model of healthcare delivery designed to improve care for people with diabetes. The consortium, led by global management consultancy McKinsey and Company, has been appointed to deliver the pilot for the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA). Central Adelaide & Hills Medicare Local Established
The first South Australian metro Medicare Local, the Central Adelaide and Hills Medicare Local, was officially formed on the 30th September 2011. The Medicare Local was established as a separate not for profit Company Limited by Guarantee, with a primary focus on health service planning and commissioning of services for the resident population within the Medicare Local boundary which encompasses the CBD of Adelaide, the Western and Eastern suburbs and the Adelaide Hills to Callington. The New Health Minister, Hon Mark Butler Visits

Minister Mark Butler in his new role as Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, met with senior management at Healthfirst Network on Wednesday December 13th to discuss the expanding role service providers will play in mental health and aged care.
Health Services Director Cathy Zesers briefed the Minister on Healthfirst Care’s ongoing role in services provision across the western suburbs while the CEO Brenton Chappell outlined Healthfirst Network’s ongoing commitment to the provision of primary health care and general practice support.

Telehealth Initiative & MBS Items
(from 1st July 2011)
The Telehealth MBS item numbers are now available for GPs providing clinical support to patients accessing specialist medical services via telehealth video-conferencing. There is also a generous one-off incentive for GPs, Specialists and Residential Aged Care facilities (RACF) who initiate an appropriate telehealth service. For Healthfirst Network GPs, this initiative only applies to RACF patients at this stage. Read more...
